Close to Deepwater Seaports

Port of Charleston

South Carolina’s Port of Charleston has been at the center of global commerce and trade for three centuries. In addition to being one of the busiest container ports along the southeast and Gulf coasts, it is also recognized as one of the most productive – averaging 41 moves per hour per crane, well above the U.S. port standard of 25-27.

The deep water and high bridges allow the Port to serve ships of more than 8,000 twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs); in 2010, the Port handled 1.28 million TEUs.  Each year, more than 30 different shipping lines serving 150 countries use South Carolina’s ports.  Our region offers sites within 45 minutes to 90 minutes of the Port of Charleston.

Port of Savannah

The largest single container terminal in North America, the Port of Savannah is within a 15-minute to 90-minute drive of our industrial sites.  Two railroads, Norfolk Southern and CSX are on terminal.  With 9,700 Feet of contiguous berth space, the Port of Savannah is a four-hour drive to major markets in Atlanta, Orlando and Charlotte.

The Jasper Port: Coming Soon

A joint project of the States of South Carolina and Georgia, the Jasper Port will be located right here in our region and is scheduled to be operational in 2025.

The port is to be located approximately eight miles from the sea buoy that marks the entrance to the Savannah River’s shipping channel. The terminal’s location would enable the channel to be readily dredged up to 50 feet deep, opening the way for the region to serve new container traffic that  cannot be accommodated in either the port of Charleston or Savannah. The terminal would be large enough to serve between 550,000 to1.1 million TEUs (Twenty-foot Equivalent container Units) in its first decade of operation. Jasper County is one of the fast growing counties in the entire United States, and we have sites available within minutes of the new port.
