Mr. John Fleming, P.E., has accepted the staff position of Director of Development with SouthernCarolina Alliance, the regional economic development organization marketing Allendale, Bamberg, Barnwell, Colleton, Hampton and Jasper Counties.

“We are fortunate to have someone with John’s extensive knowledge of the SCA region, the member counties and municipalities served by SCA.  Because of his engineering background and extensive project work within the area and state, he brings a unique skill set to the organization,” said SouthernCarolina Alliance Chairman Buddy Phillips.

Formerly Vice President of Hussey, Gay, Bell & DeYoung, Inc. (now Hussey Gay Bell), Fleming has already played a vital role in working on economic development projects in the region over the last decade.

“John’s capabilities and input have been critical in many projects,” said SouthernCarolina Alliance President and CEO Danny Black.  “He has met with prospects from around the world and has assisted in securing projects simply through his professional proficiency and his ability to communicate his expertise with the prospect, building a relationship of trust from the first meeting.  Having John join the SCA team is a natural fit and will be a seamless transition for our organization.”

Mr. Fleming received his Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering from Clemson University and is a licensed professional engineer in more than 10 states.  In 2014, John was elected in a national election as the governor of Region 4 of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) for a three-year term, representing members from Arkansas, Indiana, Kentucky, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia and West Virginia.  An active member of ASCE, he has served as a member of the National Committee on Career Development.

A former member of the SCA Board of Directors, Fleming served as Chairman of the Regional Infrastructure and Product Development Committees.  He and his wife, Dawn, have two children and reside in Summerville.
