MANUFACTURER OF RECYCLED PRODUCTS INVESTS IN BEAUFORT

$15.1 Million Investment to Create 63 Jobs

(Beaufort, SC)--Glass WRX SC, a producer of recycled glass products and advanced materials has announced that it will invest $15.1 million in a manufacturing facility in Beaufort County, creating 63 jobs over the next five years.

Glass WRX SC will operate at 302 Parker Drive in an existing 84,000 SF building located at the Beaufort Commerce Park, according to company owner and CEO Chris Fisher. The business will collect glass from numerous sources throughout three states to be converted into various products, including kitchen counters, floor tiles and wall materials.

“We are going to open up a one-of-a-kind glass manufacturing plant,” said Fisher. “We appreciate the support we have received from the Beaufort County EDC and the SC Department of Commerce.  We look forward to becoming a staple in the business community and in Beaufort for years to come.”

“Glass WRX SC is a win-win for South Carolina. The company’s use of recycled materials in its products is a victory for the environment, as well as for Beaufort County. We congratulate Glass WRX SC on this investment and look forward to watching them thrive in the years to come,” said S.C. Secretary of Commerce Bobby Hitt.

“This investment from GlassWRX and its partner Renewable Energy Alternatives (REA), a Midwest development firm specializing in renewable energy and advanced recycling technologies, shows that Beaufort County is right for manufacturing.  Having the right people, partners, and allies was important to bringing this deal to fruition,” said Beaufort County Council Chairman Stu Rodman.

“The jobs that this project will bring to Beaufort County will make a difference in the lives of our citizens.  We appreciate the investment of GlassWRX and the work of the Beaufort County EDC and our partners,” added County Councilman Gerald Dawson, who represents the area of Beaufort where Glass WRX SC will be located.

“We appreciate Chris Fisher’s investment in Beaufort County through the Glass WRX manufacturing facility,” said SouthernCarolina Alliance Chairman Marty Sauls.  “Every job he creates will provide a better quality of life for a family in the region.  That’s why economic development is critical to our future, and why entrepreneurs like Chris will continue to be assets to our regional economy.”

Mayor Billy Keyserling of Beaufort added, “We would like to welcome GlassWRX to the City of Beaufort with open arms.  The environmental stewardship of Glass WRX and their dedication to providing meaningful employments to our citizens is an excellent fit for our community.”

“Beaufort County continues to prove it has the workforce, quality of life, and community support to attract industry.  We would like to thank our partners for their contributions in bringing this project to Beaufort County.  We look forward to many more successes,” remarked Ashley Feaster, Chair of the Beaufort County Economic Development Commission.

According to Fisher, installation of the necessary equipment will take a few months, and the building will be solar powered.  Operations are expected to begin mid-2020.

Fisher founded Fisher Recycling in North Charleston in 1992, and the company now serves 800 commercial and residential customers.  The manufacturing operation will move to Beaufort with the opening of Glass WRX, while the North Charleston facility will continue to collect glass and recyclables. In addition to making products like countertops, shower walls and fireplace and pool surrounds from glass, the company will offer air and water filtration systems.
