Steele Joins Alliance Team

Ms. Sandy Steele has joined the SouthernCarolina Alliance staff as Director of Operations, according to Buddy Phillips, Chairman of SouthernCarolina Alliance.
As Director of Operations, Steele will work with the region’s county developers to bring economic development projects at all stages to fruition. In addition, she will work directly with community leaders, economic development commissions, county councils, the S.C. Department of Commerce, allies and the regional alliance board on special projects, including SouthernCarolina Alliance’s SC Promise Zone effort.
“We are delighted to have Sandy Steele join our regional team,” said SouthernCarolina Alliance President and CEO Danny Black. “As a former county developer in our service area, Sandy has worked closely with the Alliance team for several years on economic development efforts. Now she will be part of the regional team, working with us throughout the six-county territory that we serve.”
Prior to joining the SouthernCarolina Alliance staff, Steele served as Director of Economic Development for Hampton County from 2009-2015. A leader in workforce development issues, she served as Workforce Development Director for the Lowcountry Workforce Investment Area from 1999-2009 and has diverse experience in working with the business community, manufacturers, and local, state, and federal government agencies. A former member of the Colleton County Development Board, Steele was named the 2007 Administrator of the Year by the S.C. International Association of Workforce Professionals and was honored as the 1997 S.C. Ambassador for Economic Development for Colleton County.

A graduate of the Economic Development Institute at the University of Oklahoma and the S.C. Economic Developers School at the College of Charleston, Ms. Steele earned her degree from the University of South Carolina and is a South Carolina Certified Economic Developer (SCCED). A former business owner, she founded and operated Software Unlimited in Walterboro from 1985-1995 and Carolina Kettles from
2003-2015. Steele has been an active member of the South Carolina Economic Development
Association since 2009, currently serving on the Professional Development Committee.
SouthernCarolina Alliance, a non-profit economic development organization, serves the counties of Allendale, Bamberg, Barnwell, Colleton, Hampton and Jasper Counties.
