Members of the SouthernCarolina Alliance Board of Directors met with Bamberg Mayor Nancy Foster and Mr. Phillip Grooms, Chairman of the Bamberg Flag Project, on October 10 to present a donation to assist in purchasing the flags for Bamberg.

“More than $650 was raised for the project through our regional Industry Appreciation golf tournament,” said SCA Board Member and Treasurer Bob Hurst of Phoenix Specialty Manufacturing.  “Each year we allow the golfers to purchase mulligans and then donate the proceeds to a worthy cause.”

SouthernCarolina Alliance hosted a regional Industry Appreciation golf tournament, a marksmanship event and a reception last Thursday, October 5, at Sweetwater Country Club and GTI in Barnwell.  The reception was catered by Blaze n’ Buzz’s Catering of Bamberg.

“The purpose of the events is to offer an opportunity for networking among our local industries and leaders,” said SCA Board Member Isaiah Odom.  “The mulligan proceeds are a nice result of the day’s festivities.”

According to Kay Maxwell, Vice President of SCA, the group chose the Bamberg Flag Project this year because the project will beautify the downtown area of Bamberg, expressing both patriotism and an appreciation of our veterans.  The organization also commended the Bamberg Flag Project committee that the flags being purchased for the project are manufactured at Carolina Visuals in Smoaks, another local industry in the area.

Members of the SouthernCarolina Alliance Board of Directors from Bamberg County presenting the check to Mayor Foster and Mr. Grooms at City Hall were:  Rev. Isaiah Odom of Bamberg County Council; Mr. Evert Comer, Chairman of Bamberg County Council; Mr. Al Matheny of South State Bank; and Mr. Hurst.  Mr. Larry Haynes, also a member of the SCA Board of Directors, was unable to attend.
